Chelsea want to sign 21-goal striker from Premier League rivals

If you looked at Chelsea’s 5-2 defeat against PSG, the issues did not lie going forward for the Blues. They gave the European champions problems throughout the game. And even though Joao Pedro was not brilliant, he has been one of the club’s best performers since Liam Rosenior’s arrival.

The problems clearly lie at the back. Filip Jorgensen had a horror night in Paris. And some of the club’s defenders did not cover themselves in glory either.

Fans will be hoping that Chelsea strengthen in defence and between the posts in the summer. But at the same time, it looks like they have their sights set on a striker as well.

This rumour might excite the Chelsea supporters though. After all, it is someone who has scored 18 goals in the Premier League already this season. He would most certainly been an upgrade on the likes of Marc Guiu and Liam Delap.

Chelsea want to sign 21-goals striker from Brentford

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea have developed a strong interest in Igor Thiago. He is firmly on the Blues’ radar as the club assesses its options for a new No. 9 this summer.

Thiago has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season. He has scored 18 times in the English top flight already. Overall, he has 21 goals to his name across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.

That is more than any Chelsea player. So, it is easy to see why Thiago might have caught the eye of the club. Also, it is worth pointing out that the Brazilian has proven himself as a goalscorer for Club Brugge and Ludogorets in the past. So, his good run is not merely a purple patch.

Could interest in Thiago be the end of Delap at Chelsea?

There have been conflicting reports regarding the status of Delap at Chelsea. Some have claimed that the club could already be willing to part ways. That theory would be backed up by the fact that they did not waste time in parting with the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Kalidou Koulibaly, Joao Felix and a few others, when things did not work out for them at Stamford Bridge.

But on the other hand, there have also been some reports suggesting that the club want to give Delap more time. Even in that case, signing Thiago would not be a bad idea. After all, Nicolas Jackson is unlikely to continue at Chelsea, after pushing through a loan move to Bayern Munich last summer.
