Jarrod Bowen is one player Chelsea are interested in going into this summer transfer window. He is seen as a good opportunity after West Ham United were relegated to the Championship. The race came to the final day of the season. But despite winning, the Hammers finished 18th, a spot behind Tottenham Hotspur, and were relegated.
Obviously, dropping down to the Champions League is bad for any club’s finances. And it is believed that West Ham United would need to raise around £100 million this summer.
That has led to speculation about Bowen’s future at the club. Chelsea are one of many clubs to have been suggested as a potential destination. But, it looks like a move away from West Ham United is not on the cards.
According to The Sun, West Ham United have told Jarrod Bowen’s suitors they want to keep their captain at the club this summer. So long as the Hammers can afford the English winger’s wages, that will give them a chance of keeping him in the Championship.
Bowen would be a very good signing for Chelsea
Chelsea could certainly do with Bowen’s output at this point in time. He has scored or assisted more than 20 times for West Ham United in five straight seasons.
Just think of the highs and lows West Ham United have been through during that period of time. Yet, Bowen has always been there, contributing with both goals and assists.
Ultimately, it is safe to say that West Ham United are a better team with their captain. And his staying would give them a much better chance of being promoted back to the Premier League quickly.
One positive they can also take is the fact that he sounded very open to staying on at West Ham while speaking after their relegation. That is the type of characters you want at the club in tough times.
Why Bowen could push for exit
Bowen is 29 years of age. And the Championship is not the easiest league to get out of. Bigger teams than West Ham United have found themselves stuck there at a time for years on end.
So, there is no guarantee that West Ham will go straight back up. And when the emotions of the situation subsides, it is possible that Bowen could start considering the idea of an exit more seriously.
His situation is even more interesting as there is no lack of suitors. Clubs like Chelsea are willing to sign him this summer. It is hard to turn that down for life in the Championship.
If Bowen does end up doing that, then fair play to him and West Ham. There are very few players in modern football who would do that.
