Chelsea decide player won’t take part in pre-season and will leave

Chelsea will need to be very shrewd with how they handle their current squad this summer. They have a big roster, even though a good portion of them might never get to play under Xabi Alonso. Ideally, you would want the Spaniard to at least have a look at everybody, or as many as possible, before making a decision on their future. But it looks like things are set for one player.

Obviously, Chelsea have signed many youngsters since the BlueCo takeover. Most fans would agree that they have brought in more than they needed.

The club have stockpiled talent, although a lot of them do not appear to have a clear direction at all. Some others are showing potential away on loan but might not be good enough to be considered for the first-team just yet.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are happy with how Omari Kellyman performed while away on loan at Cardiff City. But they want him to continue his development with another spell away from Stamford Bridge. The Blues have already decided against the youngster joining the pre-season tour, helping him get a move as soon as possible.

What did Omari Kellyman do last season?

Kellyman spent the season out on loan at Cardiff City and he did have a prominent role there. He went on to score 11 goals in 42 games for the club.

Kellyman played a variety of roles as well. He played a ton of football up front. But he also featured in the number 10 role and on the wing.

Cardiff City did end up winning promotion to the Championship. So, it might not be a bad idea to send him back there for another season.

But if the club are confident that he is good enough to be playing top-flight football, a move to a lower end of the table team would be worth considering as well. Let us see how this all plays out.

Does Omari Kellyman have a future at Chelsea?

Kellyman was a surprising signing Chelsea made. He was brought in around the same time that Ian Maatsen left the club.

So, there are many fans who thought it was just a matter of balancing the books. But Kellyman has started to show his potential now.

Is he good enough to be playing for Chelsea? Not yet. Will he ever be good enough? It is far too early to predict.

But there is a genuine possibility that the club could make a transfer profit in a future move. Even that has to be viewed as a positive.
