Jesse Derry scores for Sporting and has already attracted the attention of Chelsea teammates Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers.
The 19-year-old produced an impressive finish during Sporting CP’s 2-0 pre-season victory over Monaco before copying their familiar ‘cold’ celebration.
Derry doubled Sporting’s advantage at the Estádio José Alvalade on Saturday evening. His curling effort marked his first goal since joining the Portuguese club on loan from Chelsea.
The winger initially celebrated with his new teammates before folding his arms and mimicking the pose made famous by Palmer. Rogers has also used the celebration and previously joked that his former Manchester City academy teammate had stolen it from him.

According to Tribuna, Palmer responded to Derry’s Instagram post by writing: “That’s it.” Rogers also approved of the celebration by leaving a cold-face emoji underneath the post.
Derry joined Sporting on a season-long loan earlier in July after signing a new Chelsea contract until 2032. There is no option for the Portuguese side to make the move permanent, so he will return to Stamford Bridge next summer.
ReadChelsea previously examined how Derry’s Sporting loan fits into Xabi Alonso’s wider plan for the club’s young wide players. The teenager now has an opportunity to gain regular senior experience at one of Portugal’s biggest clubs.
His first Sporting goal represents an encouraging early step. Derry still faces competition for consistent minutes, but producing a decisive moment against Champions League-level opposition will strengthen his push for a prominent role.
Chelsea will continue to follow his development throughout the campaign. Palmer and Rogers appear equally pleased to see another Blues attacker adopt their ‘ice cold’ celebration.
