Chelsea hit by fresh Garnacho blow as Napoli close transfer door

Chelsea have suffered another setback in their attempts to sell Alejandro Garnacho after Napoli reportedly rejected the chance to sign the winger.

The 22-year-old has been offered to the Serie A champions by Chelsea and his representatives as they search for a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge.

However, Manchester Evening News, relaying Calciomercato, reports that Napoli have closed the door on a transfer for now.

The Italian club are not believed to be considering a signing of Garnacho’s cost and wage level. Their decision blocks a possible reunion with former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Chelsea face growing Garnacho transfer problem

Garnacho joined Chelsea from United for £40m last summer but struggled to secure a regular starting place.

The Argentina international scored eight goals and provided four assists across 43 appearances. He also missed out on Argentina’s World Cup squad following an inconsistent campaign.

Xabi Alonso has since confirmed that Chelsea have discussed Garnacho’s situation with the club’s sporting directors. The new head coach also acknowledged interest from other teams and indicated that an exit would be welcomed.

Roma remain among his possible destinations, although Chelsea previously rejected their preference for an initial loan. The Blues have been pushing for a permanent sale after placing a valuation of around £42.5m on the winger.

Juventus, Inter Milan and Como have also been linked, but no club has yet met Chelsea’s demands.

Napoli’s decision removes another potential destination and increases the pressure on Chelsea to find an acceptable deal before their pre-season tour begins.
