Xabi Alonso has arrived at Cobham for his first day as Chelsea manager, as the club’s new era begins on the training pitch.
Chelsea confirmed Alonso’s arrival at Cobham with an official club video, showing the Spaniard starting work with the men’s first-team group.
The 43-year-old officially began his Chelsea role on 1 July after signing a four-year contract. His first day at Cobham now gives the appointment a more visible starting point.
For Chelsea, the focus quickly moves from announcement to application. Alonso must turn a talented but unsettled squad into a side with clearer structure, stronger rhythm and more reliable standards.
ReadChelsea has already looked at how Alonso’s first pre-season date gave Chelsea a key squad audit. That audit now begins in the environment that matters most.
Chelsea Reset Now Starts On The Grass
Alonso will not settle every question on day one. Several senior players are still away after World Cup duty, while others face uncertain futures during the transfer window.
But the first Cobham session still carries weight. It gives Alonso the chance to set demands early and start shaping the tone of pre-season.
Chelsea’s first friendly under him comes against Western Sydney Wanderers on 28 July, before further matches against Tottenham, Juventus, AC Milan and Johor Darul Ta’zim.
Those games will offer the first public signs of his tactical plan. Until then, Cobham is where Alonso’s Chelsea will start to take shape.
The appointment was the headline. His arrival at the training ground is the first real step.
