Chelsea told to bring back two-time Champions League winner

Share

After spending a fortune on strengthening their attack last summer, Chelsea are expected to make some significant changes in their defensive lineup during the upcoming summer transfer window. One of their key players at the back, Levo Colwill, suffered an ACL injury in pre-season. He has not played since then. But the Blues were unable to replace the talismanic centre-back and have paid the price for it.

Chelsea’s current centre-backs have failed to attain consistency throughout the ongoing campaign. More quality is needed in that area.

The Blues were reportedly looking to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet during the winter transfer window. Unfortunately for the Blues, it didn’t quite go as planned. The youngster decided to agree on a transfer to Liverpool, where he will join in the summer.

The Blues should definitely go into the summer transfer window with an intent to reinforce their defence. They have already been linked with a few defenders. The club are rumoured to be interested in Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and Werder Bremen’s Karim Coulibaly. They might just need to add a rather experienced option. How about someone who has won a Champions League with them?

Chelsea told to bring back former player

According to former Premier League midfielder Charlie Adam, the Blues should really consider bringing Antonio Rudiger back from Real Madrid. He said on Sky Sports (via Chelsea News):

“They [Chelsea] should never have let him go or allowed him [Rudiger] to leave.

“I understand it was Real Madrid he joined but they never should have got to that position where he could leave.

“He’s phenomenal. I’ve said before that he’s the ideal person that Chelsea need back.”

Rudiger is set to be out of contract at Real Madrid in the summer. No extension has been agreed yet. So, Chelsea could have the chance to sign him as a free agent.

Antonio Rudiger could be the key to Chelsea’s success

Rudiger was an important part of the Blues’ success before leaving the club. The German international won the Champions League in 2021 as they defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the final. He was phenomenal in that game.

Since his move to the Spanish capital in 2022, the Blues have failed to find a replacement for the 33-year-old. And despite his age, the German international can bring some much-needed stability at the back for Chelsea, if they are to compete for trophies going into the next season.

As far as the Blues are concerned, the timing couldn’t have been more immaculate, as the defender is once again expected to be out of contract in the summer. Signing him as a free agent would have shades of the move Chelsea made for Thiago Silva.
